Mariane Lutz was elected Vice-president of the Chilean Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences

UV PRESS/ The Co-director of the Centro Interdisciplinario de Estudios en Salud (CIESAL) at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de Valparaíso, Mariane Lutz, was elected Vice-president of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Chile (ACFCH), a position that will be held for the next three years. She was recently elected in the context of the relevant turnover of the governing board of said institution, which is now led by the pharmaceutical chemist Carla Delporte, who in turn was elected Chairwoman for the same period. The rest of the ACFCH board is made up of the following people: Marcela Pizzani (Secretary), Carlos Calvo (Treasurer) and Antonio Morris (Director). Mariane Lutz is a Pharmaceutical Chemist and holds a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition from the Universidad de Chile. Since 2019 she is a tenured professor at the School of Medicine of the Universidad de Valparaíso, following her academic career at the Faculty of Pharmacy, where she founded and directed the Functional Foods Research and Development Centre (CIDAF) and the Nutrition and Dietetics degree course.

Her field of interest is Food Science and Nutrition, bioactive compounds in food, their mechanisms of action and scientific validation and ways to improve the nutritional quality of food. She has directed and participated in national and international research projects such as FONDECYT, FONDEF, Regional Centre, CORFO, FIA, and international networks, among other projects.

In addition to being the Co-director of CIESAL-UV, Professor Lutz is a member of the Research Council and of the Scientific Ethics Committee of the Universidad de Valparaíso. She is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of several scientific organisations and societies, and the coordinator of the Nutrition and Ageing Core within the Ageing thematic roundtable of the Consortium of State Universities of Chile (CUECH).
