Álvaro Ardiles, biochemist from PUCV and PhD in Neurosciences from UV, has taken over as Coordinator of the Research Office of the School of Medicine, replacing Dr. Javier Bracchiglione.
In addition, since September, Dr. Ardiles is the representative of the School of Medicine to the Research Commission of the School of Medicine.
Dr. Ardiles served between 2005 and 2016 at the Neurosciences Center of the University of Valparaiso, arriving at the School of Medicine in January 2017.
Álvaro is one of the principal investigators of CIESAL since the original project created in 2017, where he has been a long-standing member in teaching and research. His main line of research is related to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and cellular processes related to the topic. Dr. Ardiles has stood out for his work in the development of drugs to mitigate the cognitive damage caused by Alzheimer’s disease (link).
He is currently executing several external projects, including two FONDECYT projects, and two FONDEF IdeA projects.
