Álvaro Ardiles takes over as the School of Medicine’s research coordinator

Álvaro Ardiles, who holds a degree in biochemistry from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and a PhD in Neuroscience from the Universidad de Valparaíso, has taken up the role of Coordinator of the Research Office of the School of Medicine, replacing Dr. Javier Bracchiglione.

Since September, Dr Ardiles has also been the School of Medicine’s representative before the Faculty of Medicine’s Research Commission.

Between 2005 and 2016, Dr Ardiles worked at the Universidad de Valparaíso’s, Neurosciences Centre, before joining the School of Medicine in January 2017.

Álvaro has been one of CIESAL’s principal researchers since its creation in 2017, and has lengthy experience in teaching and research. His main line of research is concerned with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and related cellular processes. Dr Ardiles has stood out for his work in the development of drugs to mitigate the cognitive damage caused by Alzheimer’s disease (link).

He is currently working on several external projects, including two FONDECYT projects, and two FONDEF IdeA projects.
